It has begun...

The first of the designs I've created are up. Real simple stuff but it works well.

Have to go out during the daytime as well or at least bring a really good light out with me at night so I can see what I'm doing and prevent overspray.

More to come!

A 40oz for breakfast just to get me through the day

My first year of university is finally over. In celebration I will resound a mighty "HUZZAH!" across the intarwebs. Did you feel it?....is it in yet?
I certainly didn't do as well as I had hoped I'd do though. Too many distractions over the course of the year kept me from really putting my entirety of being into my school work. Which, mind you unless you're a natural genius, is what one must do in order to be truly successful in university. There really is hardly any time for fun once the machine starts grinding along. It's just work, work, work.
But c'est la vie mon amis is what I say. It was a learning experience and I've come away with some improved skills and a clearer outlook on my education and its future.

Now that school is done though I have more time for other pursuits that fulfill me. Like updating this little piece of the blogosphere on a much more regular basis. What a weird word 'blogosphere' is. It makes me think of a strange monster from a distant world attacking Earth. Like a Star Trek monster. Which, if you haven't seen the trailers yet, looks "le fucking fantastic" as the French would say. I just may be one of those nerds everyone adores waiting in line for a day or two waiting to see it on opening night. I refuse to dress up though.....because I'm dressed up already.

On the inside.

What else do people 'blog' about? Dammit I hate that word! Blog, bloooooooogggggg, B-L-O-G. Who the fuck made up that word? Leading research indicates that this man solidified the usage of the term. I do not like this man and, yes, it is for a petty reason.

My moms just bought me a chocolate bunny and I told myself I'd refuse chairman-maoing it down until tomorrow. I couldn't resist and ate its ears. So now it can't hear me discuss with myself how delicious it is.

Here's what kind of music I'm listening to right now in Light and Heavy flavours:

Heavy Rotation :

The Go! Team

Eric. B & Rakim

DJ Shadow

KRS-One

Light Rotation

Patti Smith

Souls of Mischief

Talib Kweli

That's about all really. I'm diggin' The Go! Team something fierce. It's just music that gets me moving ya know? If you can make music that makes somebody shake, rattle and roll than you must be doing something right.

Music's making a fierce sideline comeback into my life recently too. Arguably more than art has. When I was younger music was my life. There wasn't a time when music didn't feel my ears with it's rhythms and melodies.

This summer I declare it will mainly only consist of the 4 elements. Breakin', Rapping, DJ-ing and Getting up. That's it. That will be my only recreational activities. That's all I've developed my interests in.

I also have to break open my japanese and french textbooks again as well. I was doing really well in BC learning japanese and last summer I was all over french grammar like a fat kid on a bucket of mashed potatoes and gravy. (cliiiiiiiiiiiiche!)
Alright that was mean to fat kids, I mean...thinly challenged kids, so let's use a different simile such as 'like a Shriner getting a boner when he sees a tiny little car". Too obscure? Yeah, well screeeeeew you.

And this post is fuckin' done son!

School, careers and direction oh my!

Ah first year University. Where the youth of today go to explore themselves, bust their asses 'round the clock, meet different people and generally walk around in an overloaded stupor for most of the year.

What an interesting and eye-opening experience this has been for me. I can for certain say that right now University just isn't 'what I'm looking for'. Writing essays for most of my assignments is just the most horrendously boring thing to me at this moment. I love sitting in lecture, I love researching and reading my texts but putting it all into a research paper I can do without. I don't even have the drive to just go and get it done for the sake of getting it done.

Now, as a student of Sociology, I have learned some definite facts that have helped contribute to my lack of drive. The main fact being close to 50% of University grads cannot find employment in their field. They don't graduate from the service industry into careers with their new found degrees. What the eff is that man? Someone pays upwards of $18,000-$20,000 for their education and they're still stuck in the service occupations but with the added exception of student debt? That makes my smiling earth frown.
What about the fact that obtaining a BA is quickly becoming like getting your high school diploma? Almost everyone has one. Soon we'll all be paying for grad school to just to have the competitive edge over other people in the job market. In the near future we might see the over-saturation of education in Western countries and my concern would be the impact on the quality of education the youth receives.

Quality over quantity.

I say I want to be able to have some definite skills that can obtain me a career once I'm finished a stint of post-secondary education. I don't want to take a shot in the dark and hope something works out. Knawm'sayin'?

Enter college. Another avenue of education I've dabbled in. I'll keep this short yet tout sweet. College work was just fine with me...most of the time. It was hands-on. I got to see the end results of my labour and I could feel satisfied. I was more motivated then than I am now. I'm also damn sure that if I fiddled around with InDesign long enough again I could put together a newspaper or magazine in no time. I learned things I could apply almost right away to a real-world situation. If only I had gone to college for something I had a passion for.

Heading back to college seems to be the best avenue for me right now. I can at least specialize in a specific applicable skill-set once I'm finished and finally catapult myself out of the dregs of the service industry.

My concrete streets

Man, I've come to the conclusion that I am quite of the loop. I mean, how do people even blog? I don't think I know how. I'm trying to use this blog as an outlet of all the positivity I find and do in the world but it's really hard to do that when it's been so damn cold out and I've had a wondrous amount of work to do for school. Oooh! I should make this blog about the interesting things I want to share with people and put an emphasis on the things that are positive and good! A-ha!

There we go. Now I'll have something to put here every week as long as I remain vigilant! Haha I Rz teh L33tz.

Well, the only interesting I have to share right now is a nice little graffiti community from Toronto.
www.bladediary.com . Run by a cat named Posterchild who's been getting up for quite a few years around North America. He updates quite regularily and is a regular on the forums and always has something interesting and informative to say. It's a nice little part of the intarwebs.

That's all folks. I got nothin' else.

*the snow is melting holy crap it's melting!*

Oh Noes!

My pictures won't load! I'll fix that tonight fo sho' bros, fo sho.

Interesting campaign posters

This James Lim fellow has made some interesting election posters around campus. Mainly in the student union area. Posters with slogans and phrases such as "smash boredom", "politics is used for personal gain" , "Spoil your ballot" and "They don't make cars good enough for me to drive in." I doubt he'll even come close to winning or tally up a decent amount of votes but at least he's saying something albeit in vague and, as some have disagreed, witty ways. His messages are being talked about though. Just now I heard a pair of students discussing his posters and despite the fact that it was not in praise it was still being talked about. People were thinking and forming opinions over what he (or maybe she now that I think about it) was saying. It may be due to his short, to the point, large, bold, black-lettering on a white background that captures people's attention but I haven't heard anyone else talk about any other mundane candidate in the halls of McMaster University other than one being denied to address the class about his campaign in my sociology lecture and yes, my ears are paying attention. People have started writing replies on his posters as well. A few in praise such as "You're my favourite but I'm voting for someone else!" and in reply to his "Incite yourself" message: I will cuz' I like you the most. My favourite so far is in response to his "boredom is counter-revolutionary", underneath someone wrote "Vagueness is just confusing". I really want to write "At least vagueness promotes creativity"(Holy crap I love almost anonymous communication on walls!). So I think I'll print up some responses of my own tonight.
I like this James Lim. He has creativity and is seemingly spurning thought from others rather than just saying "LOLZ VOTE 4 M3! I IZ CHANGE". Showing truly, that his politics are not for personal gain. Which is seriously what almost all of these other people are doing. Don't get me wrong though, there are a few candidates who seem to have some of their shit together. None of them have personality like James Lim though. Of course, I wonder if this person is even IN the running for msu prez or just another Wall Prophet having fun. I wish to meet this person though, check out their philosophy and come to understand who they are to have done what they are doing. For it is something good.

I am new in this place

This is SmilingEarth and I believe in the Good. Even more so these days because I am in dire need of something to believe in. Although my personal feelings of good and positivity still exist within me they have been overshadowed by cynicism, ignorance and, to some extent, self-centeredness. Very conflicting inner-beliefs that are doing me no good whatsoever.

When I was a young adolescent I radiated positivity, selflessness and good even when I was alone. I am going to re-connect with that. I am going to document all of the good that I find and all that I attempt to put forth into the world.

Do you remember the curiosity and wonder we felt as children, as teenagers? Were you ever driven to obtain knowledge of what a thing was and why it was that way? To know and revel in the experience of learning and knowing? This is how I used to be. Finding solice, comfort and happiness in just realizing. Just knowing and feeling everything around me. Just being.

This chapter of my life is called: Rebirth of Adolescence
